Using a case study this talk will introduce you to manorial court records and demonstrate how they can be used for both family and house history research, tracing the same property firstly, forward from 1835 to its enfranchisement in 1894, and secondly backwards from 1835 into Latin records to 1705.
Sarah, originally from Yorkshire but now based in Surrey, is a professional family and house historian. She holds the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies (IHGS) Diploma in Genealogy. She am a member of the Association of Geneagists and researchers in Archives (AGRA), the Register of Qualified Genealogist (RQG) and the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG). She is also currently on the AGRA Council and the chair of their events Committee.
Sarah’s background is in law. Her previous occupation was as a family law solicitor, and although no longer practising she remains a member of the Law Society.
Drawing on her legal background Sarah’s particular areas of interest are legal records, in particular the records of the Manorial, Chancery and other civil courts as well as criminal court.
