About the Society

Society Projects

Our volunteers have completed a number of projects over the years and some are continuing. We welcome offers of help and ideas for new projects.

Current Projects

Bagendon (Badgington) and Baunton Parish Registers.

The original records have not yet been released to the Gloucestershire Archives. They are not available on Ancestry after 1865 or to the general public at large. This is a new goldmine of information as the Rectors of these parishes, Bagendon in particular, have made copious notes that will be invaluable to family history researchers. These registers are being transcribed and checked for accuracy. The new target date for completion is March 2021

Memorial Inscriptions

The Gloucestershire Family History Society are keen to continue and extend the Monumental Inscriptions project previously undertaken by John Williams and his team.
The project has been re-named Memorial Inscriptions as we aim to include war memorials as well as burial ground inscriptions within Gloucestershire.
There are a number of burial grounds which have not been previously transcribed as well as ones which now need updating. Similarly there are numerous village/parish war memorials which have not been recorded as well as memorials which may only be known to people in their local area.
It is important that these inscriptions are not lost to us, and future generations, as the ravages of weather and time take their toll. If you would like to help by transcribing inscriptions or telling us of ‘obscure’ memorials, please contact David Howells by selecting “Projects” on the Contact Us page.
