A facilitated online workshop
Do you have a brickwall you want to break through?
Do you want to get ideas from others on how to break down brickwalls?
Or do you enjoy helping others break down brickwalls?
If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then this is the workshop for you.
During the workshop, we will work through a number of brickwall challenges. Participants will be split into smaller groups (using breakout rooms in Zoom) to allow you to work collaboratively. We are asking participants to submit brickwalls in advance (see below) so we can select the ones that give the best learning opportunities for all. Mia Bennett will be moving between the groups to help facilitate the discussions. At the end, we will all come together to see how much progress has been made on each brickwall. There will also be a short talk on hints and tips for solving brickwalls.
If you would like to submit a brickwall, please provide the following information:
- A simple question summarising your brickwall – eg Who were the parents of xx?; Where is yy buried?, Where was zz between 1851 and 1881?
- What you already know
- Where you have already looked
- Anny obvious records that you have eliminated
- Any other information pertinent to the brickwall
Please ensure that any living people information (including DNA matches) are anonymised
The summary should not be more than 350 words.
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that all submitted brickwalls will be used. Please submit brickwalls with the title ‘GFHS Brickwall Workshop – [your name]’ to chairman@gfhs.org.uk by 1 April at the latest (earlier is preferred).
If you want further information, please contact Mia on this email.
You are very welcome take part in the Brickwall workshop even if you do not submit a brickwall.
