Description
By David & Linda Viner
Cirencester is a fine example of a Cotswold market town and this book draws upon the extensive collections of photographs, topographical art, local archives and social history preserved by the Bingham Library Trust.
Published to celebrate the centenary of David George Bingham’s endowment of Cirencester’s Bingham Library in 1905 – just one part of his considerable legacy to his birthplace – the book is presented as a tour of the town with which he would have been familiar during his lifetime (1830 to 1913).
Although apparently unchanging, Cirencester was full of activity and renewal, vividly portrayed in these pages.
The Trustees are committed to the long-term care of these irreplaceable cultural assets and making them more accessible to the community at large. This centenary volume is a major contribution towards that aim, as the Trustees continue to honour the Bingham Legacy.
