‘Return to War’ chronicles the local stories of WW11, those who served in the armed forces as well as the home front.
In 2016, the culmination of three years’ research by six local authors saw the publication of Parish at War – Brownshill, Bussage, Chalford & France Lynch 1914-1919. The book, produced to coincide with the centenary commemorations of the Great War, covered not just the lives of the men who fought and died, but also looked at the life on the home front, alongside stories of POWs, refugees and some of the men who returned home safely.
It proved very popular, selling out after three print runs. Encouraged by this interest, four of the authors decided that a second book, covering the Second World War, would make a fitting companion volume. Expanding this time to include the villages of Bisley, Eastcombe and Oakridge, Return to War, Bisley and Chalford Civil Parishes 1939-1945 is the result of a further four years of research.
