At Last here is a comprehensive collection of old photographs of Gloucester. It covers roughly the period from around 1870 to the 1930’s and so presents a picture of the city as many of its citizens and visitors remember it before the ravages of the sixties. Whole streets, buildings, houses and shops were swept away but, fortunately for us, the camera recorded much of what has been lost.

Jill Voyce, the Local History Librarian, has combed the splendid archives of the County Library Collection as well as other sources to produce Gloucester in Old Photographs. Every aspect of city life is covered from ceremonial and celebrations, leisure, entertainment and sport to transport, war, personalities and disasters.

Together with street scenes, pictures of buildings and shops long gone, the whole book will delight everyone, native and visitor alike, whether they remember the old Gloucester or not.
