Description

By Ben Ashworth

This is a photographic record of the railways of Gloucestershire during a revolutionary period, between 1959 and 1966. In 1959 steam power was still operating and stations and halts were legion. By 1966, diesel power had usurped the steam locomotive, most branch lines were closed and only a small number remained in use. Over 200 superbly atmospheric photographs capture this era of major change to provide a permanent record of interest to the railway buff, social historian, and indeed any one who loves steam trains.
