Gloucestershire BMD

Many researchers, both members and non-members have used the website: ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/bmd/ to help with their research into births, marriages and deaths within our county since 1837. The data has been transcribed from the original registers over the last 25 years by GFHS volunteers. Due to data protection considerations, the Gloucestershire Registration Service re-launched the website on 11 February 2026 at:
ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/grsi/
As a consequence, the new site has significantly less information provided. There is no mother’s maiden name on births, no ages given on deaths, the marriages no longer give the place of marriage, and there are no sub-districts provided on the results, to help you narrow down your search. Some of this information is still available at other websites e.g. the mother’s maiden name from 1837 on theGeneral Register Office’s own website and from 1911 on FreeBMD.
Noting the recent update, GFHS are investigating the reasons behind the reduction in information with the hope of working with the Registration Service to establish if some of the information removed could be reinstated while remaining compliant with all relevant data protection requirements. Further updates will be provided once the position has been clarified.
