Description

Compiled by Alan Sutton

The photographs in this book include some early views from the nineteenth century, but most are from the period between 1900 and 1950. The show how the parishes of Barnwood, Hucclecote and Brockworth developed along the line of Ermin Street, and emphasise to modern residents of the parishes the dramatic changes that have taken place in the later twentieth century. A few photographs record the further formative structural changes to the shape of these three parishes which the Barnwood bypass and the building of the M5 have brought about.

The views here record a community in change, and evolution from village life, including farms, to a suburban community, and provide a vital record of this metamorphosis for the generations to come.
