We love a mystery at the Family History Centre. Earlier this year a visitor announced that he had dug this object up in the garden and cleaned it. But the ravages of time made it difficult to read.
Soon the volunteers were crowding round speculating on what it could be.
One or two letters were visible, some wheels belonging to an old horse driven coach. Reins could be seen, but the horses only in our imaginations. There was no pin or hook on the back.
A photograph was taken for a more detailed examination at home. I thought the last word was Dept, so maybe it an early Mail or Fire service?
