The Family History Centre houses all our Research Material and is located on the Gloucester Archives’ Site just a few steps away from the Archives’ entrance. It can be easily identified by our distinctive claret and cream livery.
The Centre is open to members and non-members alike and although entry is free of charge, we appreciate Donations that along with our members’ subscriptions are the lifeblood of the Society. Having a ground floor building means easy wheelchair access.

Our library contains hundreds of titles covering a wide range of family history topics including the latest copies of other Societies’ journals and the main Family History magazines.
Also in this area are several volumes of Gloucestershire Monumental Inscriptions. Although these are available on our computers many researchers prefer to browse the printed volumes – look on the end bookcase containing the big red files.
We always appreciate donations of books, particularly specialist themes (eg: Kelly’s street or trade directories) and any out of print volumes. If a donated book is already stocked we sell it on eBay with proceeds to the Society’s funds so it does not go to waste.

Library books are only available at the FHC and cannot be loaned.
The Centre has a shop containing a large selection of interesting Books, Maps and CDs relating to Family History for sale. It also sells CDs of Indexes/Transcriptions of Gloucestershire Records which have been published by the Society. All the items are also available from the on-line shop Buy Now.
The Centre is staffed entirely by volunteers, many of whom have research interests all over the country. Although we obviously specialise in Gloucestershire we are also here to help you research wherever it leads.
Family History can become addictive and you might even want to become a volunteer. If you can spare anything from three hours a month to one day a week contact the Family History Centre Coordinator or telephone the FH Centre.
Come and visit us now and expand your research. Last year a visitor from Australia stayed with us for two weeks!
We welcome comments on our service and how we can improve the Centre.
