“Strays” are records of Gloucestershire people who have been found, usually by chance, by researchers in other counties, and submitted to the society. Janet Selley keeps all such submissions on paper slips; she will search the slips for your names of interest. Alternatively you may buy microfiches which contain all strays received up to 1998.
This set of microfiches is indexed in 3 ways.
Miscellaneous Strays from a variety of sources, e.g. census, military records, passenger lists etc.
Marriage Strays, alphabetically listing grooms.
Marriage Strays, alphabetically listing brides.
Although the latter list will contain many who are not technically Strays, they do form a valuable cross reference where information is limited. The index will be updated from time to time as more Strays information is received. Please continue to send Stray information to Janet Selley, Penlea, Selsley West, Stroud, Gloucestershire GL5 5LJ. Please put the details on duplicate slips measuring 5"x3". The duplicate copy will be sent to the FFHS Strays clearing house for national information.
