Note – Now available by PDF Download (See Downloads)

Register of Burials In The Coney Hill Burial Ground in the City of Gloucester from the 10th May 1938 to 5th January 2015.

A History of the County of Gloucester Vol 4 states that in 1856 a cemetery of 13 acres was laid out at Tredworth but was not opened until 1857 when the old city churchyards ceased.

A second city cemetery at Coney Hill was laid out in 1934 but was not opened for burials until 1939 with the first interment taking place 10 May 1939. This cemetery is still used today.

A Crematorium was built in the grounds of the Coney Hill cemetery and the first cremation took place there on the 7 January 1953. Many ashes were then either scattered or interred in or on Graves in both cemeteries.

Gloucestershire & Wiltshire Quaker Registers on CD

By : Gloucestershire FHS

CD Version
Note – Now available by PDF Download (See Downloads)

This contains the following Registers :

  • Birth Registers : 1642 – 1837
  • Burial Registers : 1655 – 1908
  • Marriage Registers : 1656 – 1908

About 1837-1840, James Bowden Digest Clerk and William Manley Recording Clerk of the Society of Friends compiled three registers of Births, Marriages & Burials from, it is believed, the minutes of Monthly Meeting Registers created by individual Meeting Houses in the Gloucestershire & Wiltshire area commencing around 1650.

These Registers held by Gloucestershire Archives have been transcribed together with a fourth register of later compilation onto this CD.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

The original Monthly Meeting Registers are now in the National Archives at Kew possibly under RG6 & Images of the same can been viewed on The Society of Genealogists Web Site. Please bear in mind that the original documents from 1650 to 1837 were transcribed in 1840 and these have been transcribed again in 2011. Therefore the indexes on this CD should only be used as a guide until the original documents can be viewed. Please read the Transcribers notes by Gloucester Family History Society on this CD for more information. However to whet the appetite notable families such as Joseph Fry chocolate maker can be found as well as faraway places such as America the Caribbean, and English Counties from the North to South .
